After getting a Sunday off I then taught the Mutoh School of Wrap that was hosted by Graphics One in Burbank.  Monday and Tuesday was the Basic/Intermediate and on Wednesday the Advanced.

Thursday morning I flew to Reno to teach a 2-day private workshop for Sierra Custom Signs.

Friday I flew back to LA to hang out with family then Saturday I returned to my ladies back in Amsterdam.  Definitely a high energy run but well worth it.  It was nice to meet so many people eager to learn the art of wrapping.  Next workshops coming up are at Squeezy on September 2  and the Mutoh School of Wrap at Avery Headquarters in October.  For more information on that workshop go to:  www.mutohschoolofwrap.com.

Yesterday was the last day of demos I did for Mutoh in their booth at the NBM Long Beach show.  Over the three days I wrapped a boat using Avery's 1005 Supercast with 1.3mm overlam.  The graphics were printed brilliantly with a Mutoh Valuejet.  This was only the second time I wrapped a boat so it was nice to get some practice in.  One of the aspects of the 1005 Supercast that I like so much is the initial low tack.  This enables me to install something as long and awkward as the side of a boat by myself.  The reason for this is that I can take the entire backing paper off and install at my own pace.  A special thanks to all of those at Mutoh, especially Brian Phipps, for all their help during the show and to Ron Winter from Avery and Todd LaBrie from Carwraps for all their input.  Next show on tap is SGIA in Vegas in October.  For that show I will be wrapping Rusty Wallace's race car in Mutoh's booth.  Exciting stuff so be sure to come on by.

Today I finished teaching the second Basic Training Workshop at Squeezy in the Netherlands which is sponsored by 3M.  There was 10 students and I, along with Herman and Sandra, provided hands-on instruction throughout the day. For the Basic Workshop, Ruben van Raam  from 3M provided theory training about 3M, the properties of the film, how they are made and the different films and uses.  After that I talked about tools and then the students got their hands dirty for the rest of the day.  The main focus for the Basic Workshop is on learning proper fundamentals - how to squeegee, clean, cut, make text straight and problem solve.  This training is a stepping stone to the Car Wrapping workshop taught at Squeezy and for the advanced paint replacement training that begins in November.  The films used for the Basic Training varied widely so as to give the students as much experience as possible - IJ50, IJ70, 85, IJ100, IJ380 and 580 reflective film.

I just got done teaching the 2-day basic/intermediate workshop for Mutoh at Seal in Elkridge, MD.  Once again, it was a great class.  All the students were eager to learn and wrap, wrap wrap.  We wrapped one of the students vehicles, pictured below.  We worked a lot on technique and understanding the film and really only got to wrapping the car during the afternoon session on day 2.  I was very impressed that with everything they had picked up they wrapped the car in 3 1/2 hours.  Thanks as always to Mutoh for printing such beautiful graphics and Avery for their supa Supercast.  A special thanks to Mark Rugen and Seal for the hospitality.  Tomorrow the advanced workshop and then off to Halifax to teach a private workshop for Avery.

Yesterday was the first carwrap training at Squeezy and it went very well.  There were 9 students with 3 instructors - Sandra, Herman and myself.  Ruben and Ronald from 3M were there to provide theory training and answer any questions regarding the media.  The facility is just perfect for trainings with lots of mounted doors, a dedicated vehicle for wrapping and a lecture room for video (and for drinking coffee).  I am very happy to be part of this training program.  For more information on these trainings go to my workshop page on this site or www.squeezy.nl.  The media used was 3M's IJ380 and 85 series.

I'm looking forward to relaxing tonight and tomorrow then flying to Sign Warehouse for the sold out hands-on workshop which is sponsored by Mutoh and Avery.  After all the hardwork this year, its nice to see things start to really come together.  Viva Las Vegas.

The idea is that the participants will go through 3 training modules in order to receive MCS installer status from 3M Sweden.  Installers with MCS status will be given access to all MCS accounts which are premium level.

The first module is basics, the second is carwrapping and the third is the speedwrapping.  Because the Speedwrap Module is the most advanced workshop it focuses not only on the installation but other aspects involved before and after a wrap . First, the module will fine tune techniques and create speed for fleet wrapping. Second, there is time spent on how to create communication between installers, salespeople and designers.

This significantly reduces stress and time lost as well as increases profits. Third, installers and salesman are shown how to promote and create new markets using the latest materials on the market.

More information will be available when the MCS warranty program is finalized in the coming months.

Mutoh Demo

From April 16-18, Justin did demonstrations in the Mutoh booth at the ISA sign show in Las Vegas.

In addition to the demos, Justin, along with Niels Langedijk, co-owner of Squeezy Sleeve, the premiere installation company in the Netherlands, wrapped a Toyota Prius in 1 hour, 29 minutes to show the Speedwrapping system in realtime.

Around 200 people crowded around the Mutoh booth to watch while Todd LaBrie, owner of Carwraps talked about the process along with his new webinars that he is doing with Mutoh in May (www.mutoh.com).

The topic of Justin's demonstrations were the Speedwrapping system that he has created. Justin wrapped the hood and side of a Prius, showing the crowds his proven technique and unique ways of seeing the wrappping process that produce high quality wraps that have zero material failures and incredibly fast install times.

His system is win-win for the industry. Faster install times mean more wraps can be installed. More wraps mean printers sell more prints, salespeople sell more jobs (fleets) and manufactures like Mutoh and 3M sell more of their products and services.
