We Build Excitement

Recently, my friends Kiki and Greg got married near Santa Cruz.  Greg had mentioned a few months earlier that he would love to have the Trans Am Firebird on his BMW.  So, taking advantage of being in the sign industry, I had one made up and secretly put it on before their ceremony.  After the ceremony Greg saw it and said, "This is one of the best presents I've gotten since 3rd grade."  Truly one of the best compliments I have ever received (and curious what that present in 3rd grade was).  Thanks to Knibbe Lettering for printing it up and Jeremy and Heidi for keeping a lookout while I did a mini-speedwrap on the hood of the BMW.  Its not very often that I wrap it up while wearing a suit and tie.  Made me feel a bit like James Bond with a squeegee.

4 more seconds of fame

Last week I posted a blog about a job I did for Knibbe Lettering in Amsterdam where I wrapped 3 stealth bomber like cars for a Volkswagon commercial.  Well, here is one of the online videos they made for it.  I come in about 2/3 of the way through.  They did a time lapse of me wrapping.  4 or 5 seconds of me, baby.  In the Skoda commercial I did two years back I was in the shot for 2 seconds.  I figure by the time I'm 80 years old I will get my 15 minutes.  Slow and steady wins the race.

Stealth wrap

Earlier this week, I wrapped 3 stealth bomber cars for Knibbe Lettering in Amsterdam.  The vehicles are for a Volkswagon commercial for their new Caddy.  All 3 vehicles/wraps were identical.  The idea is that inside each bomber is a different car, including the new Caddy.  Current Caddy drivers will be asked to drive the cars to see if they can guess which one is a Caddy.  The idea is that the new Caddy is so much better that they won't be able to tell.  At least I think this is the idea, my Dutch isn't super good yet.  The wraps are only on for a week so calendar film was used - specifically Avery 500.  And why not calendar?  The vehicle is as flat as can be without even a moderate curve.  I wish all cars were like this.  Thanks as always to Reduan from Knibbe for the work and to Volkswagon for making a cool commercial.

Pim Smit Art Car

Right before heading off to LA 2 weeks ago I wrapped up an extra special car for artist Pim Smit.  Pim bought a Volvo 780 Bertone which he then created a design for.  I then wrapped it up, leaving a strip of white on the back for his signature.  I have wanted to work with an artist for years now so it was a great opportunity for me.  There is something special about putting good artwork on a vehicle.  I hope to do more of these in the future.  Thanks to Pim for the opportunity, Knibbe Lettering for printing it up and for the use of their space for the install and Paul Roba from Avery for supplying the Avery Supercast and a sample of their new overlam that will be coming out in October.  The overlam is something else.

Welcome to the jungle, baby

leopard print

Avery gave me 25 yards of their new supercast film to try out because it will be the film I will use in my advanced hands-on workshops for Mutoh and Avery this year.  Avery's new supercast film exceeded all my expectations.  On many areas that I normally use a little bit of heat the film simply conformed perfectly to the area with minimal tension.  The best way to explain how the film felt during the application was that it was like driving a super luxury car.  It did everything I have always wanted a film to do with the greatest of ease.  A truly extraordinary film.  Also, the film printed very well - the colors clean and sharp.  I would like to thank Knibbe Lettering (www.knibbe.nl) for printing the wrap.  At Avery, Molly Waters and Hans Bruins did a great job in coordinating the delivery of the supercast film and lamination.  My wife and daughter love leopard print so they are very happy to have it on our car.  Anything for my ladies.
